WHFS TUES DEC 9, 1980 12:00AM TO 2:00AM APPROX 40 MINUTES AFTER JOHN LENNON WAS KILLED

Historically, this 2+ hour open reel tape of WHFS the night John Lennon was gunned down in NYC is significant. Emotionally it may bring you down a bit. That night as always, my friends and I are partying in my basement bedroom. Still living at home. Hearing the UPI news broadcast Lennon's death is chilling. As the tape goes on, several of the prominent DJ's get together that night, and offer conversation and play John Lennon tunes throughout. It's a pretty interesting listen.

This is really interesting. There are three files in this d/l. What are the orders; which one comes first?

This will be an interesting time capsule...I was bartending in a little bar in E Grand Forks, MN and I had to learn this news from Howard Cosell on MNF. We were in shock, turned the TV off and listened to Lennon the rest of the night, literally.

Thanks

This was truly the night that music died. Thanks for posting this so we can re-live this moment and remember how senseless his killing was.

He sang "Just Gimme Some Truth" but the fact is that he was the last one that gave us all some truth. I can't even imagine the songs and truth he would have given us had he lived the past 27 years. What a waste.

Thanks again WVKayaker.

strategery,
Couldn't have said it better myself. Think about all the great music we never got from JL and all the others that went too young, we all know who they are. I always wondered what pop music would have become if Buddy Holly had been there for the Beatles and Stones, etc. Look at Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton...Like them or not, at least we got to see them continue on in middle age and more.

What This Is All About

I've been collecting live music from various sources since the mid to late 70's. Radio shows, TV broadcasts, radio show pre-FM CD's and vinyl LP's and some trades. Most of the shows posted here, I recorded and ripped myself. I always had top of the line stereo equipment and cassette and open reel recorders for those on air broadcasts.

I've downloaded plenty of bootlegged concerts from various blogs. As a rule I will only post stuff from my collection and not what is already available out there.

I also post out of print CDs and LPs from my collection.
I will repost from my readers anything someone sends me as long as it is either out of print or something that's not from someone else's blog. If you want to share a link for a cool item on your blog, or someone else's, please feel free to post it in the comments........

Enjoy and please leave a comment and pass this blog along.

Can you believe that so many out there are starving for the old WHFS? Amazing!

If you leave a comment, how about using a nickname instead of Anonymous. At least make up something please. Thanks!

I have reconsidered my position...and will re-upload dead links, so long as you go to that particular post and make the request from the comments page...
