WRNR 103.1 Christmas Eve with Chris 1997

Thought as long as I was posting Christmas crap on here, I would continue with DJ Chris from WRNR doing his whacked out Xmas Eve show. With tunes like Root Boy's 'Xmas at K-Mart' and John Prine's 'Xmas in Prison' it's a fun one to listen to. I cut out a bunch of commercials but did leave in a few that date things like a Toad.net piece bragging about their fast 56k digital modem access to the internet.

WHFS 99.1 XXVII SPRING 1985 EDMUND, Shared By DaveB

This tape has some cool 80's 'extended versions' tunes from the Talking Heads and Midnight Oil. Unfortunately it has a lot of annoying drop outs too. Still a good one! Thanks again Dave...

WHFS 99.1 XXVIII SARA 06-09-1985 From DaveB

This tape has some ambiguities. I'm guessing Dave typo'd the label. It's most likely June not Sept. Getting that out the way, it's a nice mix of your 'HFS favorites that you might expect from mid 1985. I left off the DLR tune from MTV. Thanks again Dave!

WHFS 99.1 XXV, TUE THEN LISA 08-08-1984 FROM DaveB

This is a nice tape from 1984 of DJ Tue, pronounced like the number 2. And Lisa, though it sounds like Neecee to me...but who really knows for sure. Side Two starts with Little Feat live from the Columbus album. Sadly the record is wasted with pops and scratches but, hey you might enjoy that in a weird sort of ways...Enjoy and thanks again Dave!

Lou Reed, Clarence Clemons, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Inmates, The Beatles, New Order, Lena Lovitch, Thomas Dolby, Ultravox, Visage, Little Feat, Phil Manzanara, Souxie and The Banshees

This is a great tape of DJ Diane from June 14 1985, followed by another DJ who's name I can't recall. It's loaded with great tunes but sadly is marred in a few places with bad reception and drop outs. Definetely worth a download and listen.
Thanks Dave!

WLOM PROGRESSIVE 99.1FM ADELLE THEN SARAH 11-05-1983

Dave caught the transistion from WHFS in Bethesda, MD to WLOM in Annapolis before they aquired the WHFS call letters for what would become 99.1 'HFS. They called themselves 'Progressive 99'. Deejays Adelle and Sarah are recorded on this tape playing some damned fine tunes from 1983. It's a good one!

Warren Zevon, Elvis Costello, Willy Nile, Ian Gomm, Depeche Mode, Fingerprints, Simple Minds, Tim Scott, N.Y. Dolls, Slickee Boys, Stiv Bators, Echo & The Bunnymen, Dream Syndicate, Let's Acive, Bongos, 84 Rooms, R.E.M.

Until I get the MP3 Lame codec installed on my recording software you will just have to deal with Windows Media Audio...Sorry.

WGTB From Robbie: WGTB Hard Implosion Dec 29, 1978 (Frank Cresce) and other WGTB Mini Mega Post

It's been too long since my last post. System crashes suck!
To get things started I am sharing several WGTB tapes that Robbie sent me.
One is 'The Hard Implosion' show from December 29th 1978.
What an awesome treat from Robbie to score some more WGTB Hard Implosion shows.
Chock full of 70's hard rock and wild and crazy stoner banter between the DJ's

Included in the file are couple of other tapes that Robbie uploaded...
The John Zambetti (June 1969) tape includes a rare Neil Young interview Gotta grab this one!

It Sucks Losing Your System Drive

My system disk bit the dust last week. I bought a used PC and now most of my stuff works. New versions of old programs were downloaded but I'll be damned if I can figure out how to get my recording software to record MP3's using the lame codec.
I have been dead in the water relying on my HP Tablet PC to access the web and email. As all of you probably know this completely sucks! I guess I need to invest in some mirroring software for the system disc. All my music, photos, and other stuff are safely backed up so no issues there.
Anyways...I'm just about ready to post some more stuff but it's going to be in WMA 9.1 format at least until I figure this stuff out...So don't give me any shit! (-;

WHFS 99.1 XXXVIII NEECEE 12-15-1989 From DaveB

99.1 WHFS D.J. Neecee delivers a nice set here, of what is becoming a more commercialized radio station. The last part of the show features the best of 1989, so you'll know what I'm talking about. It's still an enjoyable listen if you don't mind all too familiar tunes from the time.

Primitives, U2, Malcom McLaren, Pretenders, Stranglers, Mission Blue, Little Feat, The Clash, B52's, Elvis Costello, Neville Brothers, Figures On The Beach, Ziggy Marley, Robin Hitchcock, The Cure, XTC

WHFS 99.1 XXXVI TOM T. 1987 From DaveB

This is a great tape with familiar tunes that anyone listening back in the day will enjoy. Nothing exotic or weird, just a solid block of great music from D.J. Tom T. A couple of 12" singles add extra interest and the constant reference to the music being played on 'compact disc' is rather humorous...
I took a guess at the date...

EDIT: I dated the files 1983 by mistake. I reloaded them with the proper info.

WHFS 99.1 XXXIII SPRING 1987, From DaveB

Sorry for such a long break between posts. To tell the truth I just haven't really been motivated to post. In some ways it's a pain in the ass. I love to hear the tapes and I'm happy to share and having these tapes on my hard drive is priceless. But ripping, and scanning, uploading, adding the info to the files and so on is time consuming. And hardly anyone says thanks to Dave. I'm guessing about 30 people out there are following these WHFS postings based on the downloads. I've ranted on about this before...folks download over and over and we never hear a peep from them. Fuck it...I'll stop whining about it and get back to posting.

Here's a nice tape from a DJ I recognize but forget his name. It is loaded with great stuff!

WHFS 99.1 XXXIV TOM T 08-07-1987 From DaveB

This is a sweet tape from WHFS 99.1 Deejay Tom T. Taped on a Friday evening in August of 1987.
I guess we all know Tom recently passed away from a bout with cancer. R.I.P Tom T!

Lots of great tunes here, and an especially nice 12" remix of It's Immaterial's "I Mean After All It's Only Dead Man's Curve". Don't think I've heard this version before. Anyway, grab it and let us know what you think and give Dave some love...

WHFS 102.3 XIV Mark March 1 and March 3 1983 From DaveB

Holy crap! It looks like this tape was run over by a truck and then an attempt to straighten it out with vice grips. You can't really tell from the scans, but the cassette is so badly warped I feared there was no chance to get this bad boy ripped. The fix luckily was rather easy. I removed the top two screws and that gave the mechanism enough room for the reels to turn inside. We did lose the last couple of minutes of side 2 however. But hey, still managed to get 85 minutes of great Mark and some Milo for your listening pleasure. Thanks again Dave!

Sorry for so much time between posts. Had some other stuff going and just didn't really feel like messing with it.

So here goes a nice tape of Damian from January 25 1983. Just another outstanding slice of early 80's 'HFS and Damian.

The highest download so far for Dave's tapes is now sitting at 23...that's 23 folks out there going back in time for some WHFS Gold!
Thank YOU Dave!
Enjoy....

Get It!

What This Is All About

I've been collecting live music from various sources since the mid to late 70's. Radio shows, TV broadcasts, radio show pre-FM CD's and vinyl LP's and some trades. Most of the shows posted here, I recorded and ripped myself. I always had top of the line stereo equipment and cassette and open reel recorders for those on air broadcasts.

I've downloaded plenty of bootlegged concerts from various blogs. As a rule I will only post stuff from my collection and not what is already available out there.

I also post out of print CDs and LPs from my collection.
I will repost from my readers anything someone sends me as long as it is either out of print or something that's not from someone else's blog. If you want to share a link for a cool item on your blog, or someone else's, please feel free to post it in the comments........

Enjoy and please leave a comment and pass this blog along.

Can you believe that so many out there are starving for the old WHFS? Amazing!

If you leave a comment, how about using a nickname instead of Anonymous. At least make up something please. Thanks!

I have reconsidered my position...and will re-upload dead links, so long as you go to that particular post and make the request from the comments page...
