The Nighthawks Live At The Bayou, New Years Eve 1981

I Can't believe it took me this long to get this open reel tape ripped to my hard drive. From the Bayou, in Washington, DC it's The Nighthawks live, New Years Eve 1981, broadcast live on WAVA 105.1 FM. This bad boy rock-n-rolls! Jimmy Thackery was still with the band. Sound quality is excellent. Hard to believe it is 27 years old! Tape starts abruptly in the middle of the 1st show and ends abruptly early into the second show. Oh well, stuff happens.

Saw the Nighthawks in Chicago last year. They changed the date at Fitzgerald so it was before a crowd of about 12. Didn't matter though. More room for us. Your website is the best.

...this ain't all that ...kinda stupid and boring...the band races through everything...then when they finally slow down to play some blues they sound like a bunch of douche bags playing without any passion or commitment...i guess you had to be stoned..drunk..stupid..a friend of the band or band management..to be liking this cause this is lame...i remember now why i never bought any of this band's music...too bad cause Jimmy Thackery usually kills on guitar...

I was at the second show of this concert. I memory serves me, Cerphe was the emcee for the show. I also had a recording from the WAVA simulcast on cassette that I listened to for years until the tape snapped. Man, am I glad to find a copy again. Thanks.

What This Is All About

I've been collecting live music from various sources since the mid to late 70's. Radio shows, TV broadcasts, radio show pre-FM CD's and vinyl LP's and some trades. Most of the shows posted here, I recorded and ripped myself. I always had top of the line stereo equipment and cassette and open reel recorders for those on air broadcasts.

I've downloaded plenty of bootlegged concerts from various blogs. As a rule I will only post stuff from my collection and not what is already available out there.

I also post out of print CDs and LPs from my collection.
I will repost from my readers anything someone sends me as long as it is either out of print or something that's not from someone else's blog. If you want to share a link for a cool item on your blog, or someone else's, please feel free to post it in the comments........

Enjoy and please leave a comment and pass this blog along.

Can you believe that so many out there are starving for the old WHFS? Amazing!

If you leave a comment, how about using a nickname instead of Anonymous. At least make up something please. Thanks!

I have reconsidered my position...and will re-upload dead links, so long as you go to that particular post and make the request from the comments page...
