John Mayer Live From PBS's Soundstage Audio Rip

I know what a lot of you are thinking, WTF? John Mayer? Sure, he seems to be a hit with the teeny bopper and Y generation chicks and they drool over him. But this kid's got substance. Very talented and and all around fine musician and singer. And if Buddy Guy can give this dude a thumbs up so can I. Anyway, here is some live John Mayer that doesn't have the rediculous screaming that you hear way too much of from the "Any Given Thursday" live CD. The jams with Buddy Guy are exceptional!
I added bonus tracks to the file from "Acoustic Session VH1 Vspot" and a tune from Eric Claptons Guitar Roads Festival DVD.

From the PBS Soundstage Web Page:

Part 1 - Premiering on PBS July 7, 2005

John Mayer has become an emerging superstar without conforming to any single genre – sometimes bluesy, sometimes pop, sometimes rock, but always excellent. Writing incredible songs that appeal to a wide audience, he provides that rare common ground among listeners of all ages. With fan favorites like “No Such Thing,” “Why Georgia” and “Bigger than my Body,” Mayer rolls out nothing but the best for this Soundstage audience. Mayer has always had a special relationship with the blues, and he can count one of its greatest practitioners as a fan. In the first episode of this two-part Soundstage, the legendary Buddy Guy surprises viewers by joining Mayer midway through “Come Back To Bed,” and remains for and extended jam on “Damn Right I Got The Blues.” Other Mayer hits, including the blockbuster “Your Body Is a Wonderland,” also define this set.

Part 2 - Premiering on PBS July 14, 2005

John Mayer’s convincing vocals, guitar virtuosity and compelling songwriting has earned him the respect of his contemporaries as well as significant radio airplay and a solid fan following. On the second part of this Soundstage episode, John Mayer continues his set with favorites “My Stupid Mouth,” “Neon” and the Grammy Award-winning Song of the Year “Daughters.” Towards the end of this episode Buddy Guy returns to end this show on a high note (literally). This time the roles are reversed as Buddy takes the lead on the classic blues “Feels Like Rain,” while Mayer steps back on guitar and lets the teacher do his thing.

I like this post. John Mayer may be the last of a dying breed as kids spend all their time texting and playing video games there will be less artists that can play instruments that front bands. Especially as the music industry spoon feeds the public the next American Idol, and as more people sample to create. Az Jones.

Couldn't agree with you more Arizona.
Kids these days!
And it's probably mostly not their fault.
of course the music industry has always tried to spoon feed. It's been a massive over haul that's for sure...

What This Is All About

I've been collecting live music from various sources since the mid to late 70's. Radio shows, TV broadcasts, radio show pre-FM CD's and vinyl LP's and some trades. Most of the shows posted here, I recorded and ripped myself. I always had top of the line stereo equipment and cassette and open reel recorders for those on air broadcasts.

I've downloaded plenty of bootlegged concerts from various blogs. As a rule I will only post stuff from my collection and not what is already available out there.

I also post out of print CDs and LPs from my collection.
I will repost from my readers anything someone sends me as long as it is either out of print or something that's not from someone else's blog. If you want to share a link for a cool item on your blog, or someone else's, please feel free to post it in the comments........

Enjoy and please leave a comment and pass this blog along.

Can you believe that so many out there are starving for the old WHFS? Amazing!

If you leave a comment, how about using a nickname instead of Anonymous. At least make up something please. Thanks!

I have reconsidered my position...and will re-upload dead links, so long as you go to that particular post and make the request from the comments page...
