WHFS 102.3 Then WAMU 88.5 From DaveB

Perhaps Dave can help with the date circa when he sees his tape here. I'm guessing 1982. I used to listen to the Rock N Roll jukebox on WAMU during the evening in the late 70's. Sadly I never did any taping of WAMU. Thanks to Dave for preserving some memories for us D.C. area stoners!...lol...Anyways, this 90 minute tape starts out with WHFS DJ Milo for the first 20 minutes then it's on to WAMU and the last Friday Overnight Express Show. The end of the tape has some completely bizzaro strange verbal tirade that goes on for several minutes...very weird indeed...
EDIT: You can delete the last MP3 file...

Roxy Music, David Bowie, The Police, Magazine, Peter Gabriel, Mary Anne Faithful, The Stranglers, John Lennon and much much more

OMG -- I have no idea!!! I find it funny that I jotted the date (6/22) and not the year!!!! That was a memory lapse if I have ever had one.

I recall listening to the Overnight Express in 77/78 school year -- but I have no idea if this was it. Perhaps someone can find out from WAMU if they have this on or in their records? It would have been the LAST night they broadcast -- the "caboose" so to speak. The Story of death is rather bizarre -- I had never heard this song before, and doubt I will ever hear it again. Only on College Radio.

The Marianne Faithful song most likely will never be heard of again either...

The date is a mystery to me!

No need to post this, but just for clarification, the "Story of Death (527)" annotation means that the "song" begins at the 527 counter mark... that wont mean a thing for those that listen to the digital version, but only if you are using the tape deck's length counter (what does that mean anyway? is it inches? cm's? or seconds??? I never quite figured that out).

That may be true...it completely kicks ass tho!

This show is probably from late 1980 or early 1981, since Bowie's "Scary Monsters" was released in September of 1980. "Why'd Ya Do It?" was only one of the great songs on Marianne Faithful's "comeback" LP "Broken English." That LP was released in 1979.

All this great music. But will there be time enough to listen to it all? Oh, thanks again.

What This Is All About

I've been collecting live music from various sources since the mid to late 70's. Radio shows, TV broadcasts, radio show pre-FM CD's and vinyl LP's and some trades. Most of the shows posted here, I recorded and ripped myself. I always had top of the line stereo equipment and cassette and open reel recorders for those on air broadcasts.

I've downloaded plenty of bootlegged concerts from various blogs. As a rule I will only post stuff from my collection and not what is already available out there.

I also post out of print CDs and LPs from my collection.
I will repost from my readers anything someone sends me as long as it is either out of print or something that's not from someone else's blog. If you want to share a link for a cool item on your blog, or someone else's, please feel free to post it in the comments........

Enjoy and please leave a comment and pass this blog along.

Can you believe that so many out there are starving for the old WHFS? Amazing!

If you leave a comment, how about using a nickname instead of Anonymous. At least make up something please. Thanks!

I have reconsidered my position...and will re-upload dead links, so long as you go to that particular post and make the request from the comments page...
