WAMU 88.5 FM Overnight Express tape from July 13, 1980 From Jim

My Good buddy Jim, who taped lots of local radio way back in the day... Has shared another cool tape with us. Thanks again as always Jim!

Here's his email text to me.

I've switched computers so don't think I've sent you anything from this email address before but here I am with another find from the basement.

Here's a recording of the WAMU 88.5 FM Overnight Express show from July 13, 1980 which included Bruce Rosenstein's every other week new music show. I found it on the B side of a Live Gang of Four Concert that was played on WHFS a month later.  The concert spilled over a bit and unfortunately I taped over the first minute of Bruce but 25- 30 minutes of his show remains.  I don't remember any of these songs but luckily Bruce back announces all of them. After he signs off there's about 10 minutes of Kim playing the Slickee Boys and The Dark--at least I think the last few are from The Dark.  I have a couple of their tunes on Skip Groff's DC Connected Sampler (LIMP 1005), so it's nice to hear more from them.

Glad to see you still have the blog going and hoping you are in good health.
As always I'll share any additional nuggets that surface.

Jim

Overnight Express only ran for 3 or 4 years, ending in 1982. I think it ran from Midnight to 6AM Saturday night/Sunday morning on AMU but not sure about that...it might have been shorter. I was new to the area and didn't know too many folks at first so had plenty of time to listen to the radio...

Thanks so much. I always enjoyed the stations down on the lower end, including GTB, PFW and AMU. Old Howard and the Rock and Roll Jukebox was an after school favorite. Would love some reposts of old WGTB and WHFS, if you have time.
Cheers.

Yeah Old Howard on The RnR Jukebox was great! Wish I had a tape or two of that show...

Hey Camarillo Brillo, I love what you've done to preserve all this great music. I've collected what I could while the Mega links were viable, but I've lost a ton in a hard drive crash. Any chance you could re-upload a few of your previously ripped HFS tapes sometime? Maybe they'd last longer on Archive.org?

I know I'm just a stranger on the internet asking you to do chores, so no worries if it's not something you want to deal with. I'll keep returning to your site every few weeks to see if a new tape has emerged from the mists of time.

Thanks again for all you've done!

Hey Camarillo Barillo, it's been over a year since your last post. Just checking to make sure you are still with us!

I would love the chance to listen to another WHFS show, but the link seems forbidden.

Make a request from the page you want and I'll try and upload it straight away

My mistake - I thought this was a WHFS show

What This Is All About

I've been collecting live music from various sources since the mid to late 70's. Radio shows, TV broadcasts, radio show pre-FM CD's and vinyl LP's and some trades. Most of the shows posted here, I recorded and ripped myself. I always had top of the line stereo equipment and cassette and open reel recorders for those on air broadcasts.

I've downloaded plenty of bootlegged concerts from various blogs. As a rule I will only post stuff from my collection and not what is already available out there.

I also post out of print CDs and LPs from my collection.
I will repost from my readers anything someone sends me as long as it is either out of print or something that's not from someone else's blog. If you want to share a link for a cool item on your blog, or someone else's, please feel free to post it in the comments........

Enjoy and please leave a comment and pass this blog along.

Can you believe that so many out there are starving for the old WHFS? Amazing!

If you leave a comment, how about using a nickname instead of Anonymous. At least make up something please. Thanks!

I have reconsidered my position...and will re-upload dead links, so long as you go to that particular post and make the request from the comments page...
