WHFS From Bill Ripped on 09-27-2013

OK...Here is another tape from contributer Bill. All I can tell you is it's from WHFS, probably early to mid 80's.
As with a lot of the other tapes Bill sent me, this TDKD90 tape doesn't even have a single word written on it. And Bill liked to tape the tunes...forget all the DJ chatter, commercials and what not. At the end of the tape is actually a sentence spoken by an unknown (to me) DJ letting us know we just heard a tune from World Party.
Maybe Bill will have a listen and recall when he taped it. It's full of good tunes, not to chopped up, so a pretty sweet listen. Thanks Bill!

Thomas Dolby, Don Dixon, Robert Cray, World Party and whole bunch of stuff that sounds familiar, but I can't identify.

Side one starts with a pair of songs from the 3 O'Clock: Jet Fighter and Susie's on the ball." Saw them open for someone. Next up the classic, March in Time by Cowboys International. I was in a Georgetown record store and they were playing the album. It sounded like a greatest hits album. I bought it.

Also the Communards: Love that "I will take you to an amusement park." But I don't know who did it.

And side two had among others, Natalie Merchant, Suzanne Vega, Dolby, Cray, Martha and the Muffins and the Del Lords. Yes, named after the producer of the 3 Stooges. One of my favorite songs of the 80s was something called St. Jake. And while reading one day, discovered it was Del Lords "Rock and Roll radio for goodness sake, Blessed are the faithful; St. Jake."

I though I recognized Natalie...though it might have been 10k Maniacs...
Love that Del Lords tune!
thanks again Bill!!

Thanks for posting this … used to listen to HFS while attending NoVa Alex and then working as a tech inker for beltway bandits in Alexandria. Couldn't get HFS down on the farm where I lived so that was one of the perks of driving up Shirley Hwy … tuning into HFS. Plus making a decent wage.

always great to hear from someone with fond memories of HFS...not sure it was worth the drive up I395 however...

Are you still open to reopening a dead link for this and a couple other WHFS links? Thanks.

What This Is All About

I've been collecting live music from various sources since the mid to late 70's. Radio shows, TV broadcasts, radio show pre-FM CD's and vinyl LP's and some trades. Most of the shows posted here, I recorded and ripped myself. I always had top of the line stereo equipment and cassette and open reel recorders for those on air broadcasts.

I've downloaded plenty of bootlegged concerts from various blogs. As a rule I will only post stuff from my collection and not what is already available out there.

I also post out of print CDs and LPs from my collection.
I will repost from my readers anything someone sends me as long as it is either out of print or something that's not from someone else's blog. If you want to share a link for a cool item on your blog, or someone else's, please feel free to post it in the comments........

Enjoy and please leave a comment and pass this blog along.

Can you believe that so many out there are starving for the old WHFS? Amazing!

If you leave a comment, how about using a nickname instead of Anonymous. At least make up something please. Thanks!

I have reconsidered my position...and will re-upload dead links, so long as you go to that particular post and make the request from the comments page...
