Thank you very much for this post. The 3rd track is very rare. This show is the only place that you will find it recorded.

Sorry, no Robbie...
I'm a big fan of McMurtry's and had never heard (or heard of) "Dancing in Starlight". Thanks for the opportunity to hear this early performance. I'm really enjoying it.

Many thanks from the North of England for this McMurtry.Been a big fan since 1993....he's finally coming to the UK next month for the first time! Been an even bigger fan of guitarist David Grissom who guested on this recording and some of the early McMurtry cd's...been waiting 15 years to hear the two play 'live' together...and with your help that wish is now fulfilled...many,many thanks.
Diggin loads of your other music...we are thousands of miles apart but have similar musical tastes....Lang,Vaughan,BHTM,Edwards etc etc....T H A N K Y O U

What a great start to the year!
That's awesome Peter! Glad you found us! Thanks for the great feedback!
I wish i could tell you how unbelievably happy finding this has made me. 19 years ago i wore through a vhs tape i'd made of that show, watching it so much.
I'd (luckily) written the words down to "dancing in starlight" and had them in my pocket since i first heard the song. I never thought i'd hear it again. I once ran into mcmurtry outside a bar and had him sign my little notecard with teh words. he laughed and said that ACL was the only place that song will ever appear.
THANKS! i can't stop smiling!
Matt,
That's awesome feedback...dancing in starlight is apparantly quite rare indeed...enjoy!
I have been listening to this recording for a few years and have always enjoyed it - I was under the impression that track three is called "Cold, Empty Land".
Not that I want to cause any controversy, just my few pence worth.
Great blog containing some excellent music.
musomike - UK
Thanks, hard to say musomike...but appreciate you taking the time to write!
Hey, do you think you could repost the link to the April 1990 appearance of James McMurtry on ACL? I, too, had a VHS copy of this appearance until an idiotic roommate taped over it, much to my dismay. This was a great show because McMurtry had David Grissom on lead guitar and he gave a great performance.
Here ya go DSE...

Have been looking for this live Austin City Limits broadcast of James McMurtry for years. I'm a latecomer to this site and was very excited to finally hear this again.
But, alas, all the links I find here have expired. Would it be possible to re-up a link to this phenomenal performance? Thank you, sir!
