WHFS DJ WEASEL THURSDAY APRIL 28 1983

This is a an awesome WHFS Open Reel Tape of WHFS DJ Weasel, taped Thursday evening on the 28th of April 1983. All music, no commercials, PSA's or news breaks. Just Weasel commenting and reading his set list, that can be as long as 40 minutes or so. Never gonna see that again in commercial radio. I recorded these 2 CD's on my Pioneer CD recorder and then ripped to my hard drive. It's two single files of each CD. Sound is excellent and so is the show.

The artists listed below are not in order of appearance.

Disc One 5:00 - 7:00PM
MC5, D.O.A., The Jam, The Hipsters, Eddie and The Hotrods, Stiv Bators, Tuff Darts, The Kinks, The Undertones, NRBQ, The Ramones, Chelsea, The Comet Teens, Weird Al, Paul Collins, Nick Lowe, The Trashmen, Bow Wow Wow, The Beatles, Stray Cats, NRBQ, Dave Edmunds, Billy Bremner, Mickey Jupp, Elvis Presley, Huey Lewis, The Blasters

Disc Two 7:00 - 9:00PM
Lena Lovitch, Toni Basil, The Bellstars, Wilson Pickett, Captain Sensible, The Police, The Romantics, The Beatles, Warren Zevon, Dave Phillips and The Hot Rod Gang, Stray Cats, Buddy Holly, Billy Hancock, The Leroi Brothers, The Pirates, The Flaming Groovies, The Pretenders, NRBQ, Nick Lowe with Paul Carrack

WOW! Awesome set list.

Did I remark that this is indeed the best music blog for fans of 80's great tunes? If not, I meant to.

Oh, thank you for everything you are doing, preserving history. My heydays were a little earlier in the mid to late 70's. I would come home from working an evening shift (while a day student at UMCP), sit back on the sofa, open a beer and crank up Weasel's show. I can still here the echoes of Weasel's calming, distinctive voice reading off the set playlist which had invariably started off with one of his - and mine - favorites: Hank Ballard and the Midnighter's "There's a thrill, up on the hill, let's go, let's go, let's go". Weasel was a music professor. He taught true music appreciation, and introduced me to such a staggering depth and breadth of music. His delight in the tunes he played was contagious. I used to tape his shows, but after moves, break-ups and a fire have none left. I would just love, so much, some Weasel tapes from that time period. God, that was the best!!! Thank you Weasel. You really shaped my love of good music. I will remember those nights forever.

So is there any hope to get a copy of something from that time, or some playlists? I would be so grateful.

LaGringuita22,
That was awesome feedback! Thanks so much for the comments! I too worked late sometimes, and a beer and something else and WHFS always made my evening OK. I only wish I had some Weasel from the late 70's. Check out some of the tapes shared by Bob. There is a precious few fom 70's there. Thanks again and please make sure you check out more stuff here...

Yes, but I didn't want to mention the "something else", although it certainly was part of my memory ;+ )

Maybe someone else will remember some of those great sets and post some more playlists. It wasn't just the music, it was the way he put it together, and the way he read the list afterwards. Wouldn't it be great if Weasel himself would write his memoirs (and recall for us those sets he used to play?)?

Weasel's memoirs would be something else to check out fer sure. The man is a walking music Google. Tis a pity he can't do this anymore at 94.7.

What This Is All About

I've been collecting live music from various sources since the mid to late 70's. Radio shows, TV broadcasts, radio show pre-FM CD's and vinyl LP's and some trades. Most of the shows posted here, I recorded and ripped myself. I always had top of the line stereo equipment and cassette and open reel recorders for those on air broadcasts.

I've downloaded plenty of bootlegged concerts from various blogs. As a rule I will only post stuff from my collection and not what is already available out there.

I also post out of print CDs and LPs from my collection.
I will repost from my readers anything someone sends me as long as it is either out of print or something that's not from someone else's blog. If you want to share a link for a cool item on your blog, or someone else's, please feel free to post it in the comments........

Enjoy and please leave a comment and pass this blog along.

Can you believe that so many out there are starving for the old WHFS? Amazing!

If you leave a comment, how about using a nickname instead of Anonymous. At least make up something please. Thanks!

I have reconsidered my position...and will re-upload dead links, so long as you go to that particular post and make the request from the comments page...
