I want to say thanks again to Robbie for sharing these tapes.
This tape from Diane is very fine indeed. It's got great mid 80's tunes 'HFS was pioneering back in the day. Along with some all time favorites of mine.

Here's the text:
Camarillo,
This tape is interesting for the music mix of
course, but also for what was going on outside. On Friday, February 11, 1983 the
Washington DC area was buried in one of the largest blizzards in recent DC
history. According to NOAA: This storm beat the Presidents Day Storm and was the
second greatest snowfall of record for the Washington area (at the time). It
covered an unusually large portion of Virginia and Maryland with more than a
foot of snow. The storm set a new 24 hour snowfall record in Lynchburg,
Virginia, with 14.6 inches, Roanoke with 18.6 inches and Baltimore, Maryland
with 22.8 inches. Parts of Northern Virginia measured as much as 30 inches on
the ground. Washington, DC officially recorded 17 inches at National Airport,
but 2 feet of snow fell in surrounding suburbs. Winds gusted over 25 mph all day
on February 11 causing drifts up to five feet. The heavy snow and winds
paralyzed the region.
Meanwhile, David was on the air at 102.3 FM
playing the likes of Simple Minds, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, After the Fire,
Elvis Costello, The Jam, The Fixx, Dream Syndicate, Malcolm McLaren, Grace
Jones, Icehouse, U2, Talking Heads, Robert Palmer, Blancmange, The Teardrop
Explodes, and others.

WHFS 102.3 FM October 1981 With David Behind The Mic.
Now this is what makes this blog biz worth all the work. Jim shared two 60 minute tapes for me to share today. Here's his verbage from today's email:
How sweet is that? Thanks so much Jim!!
Camarillo,
Thanks for your reply and offer to post the links to my HFS tapes.
I’ve posted the first set of tape/.mp3 files up on zippyshare. So
feel free to link to them when you get the opportunity.
These four files contain two 60 minute cassettes worth of WHFS 102.3 FM
with David behind the mic. Both tapes are from October 1981, although I’m
uncertain whether they were taped the same day. Regardless, file A flows
into B and file C flows into D. An added bonus is that I let the tapes
roll through the back announcing, news features, and commercials so you get the
whole HFS experience.
Hope to have more files ready soon.
Jim
