Here's an email from Donnie:

I tried to post a thank you on your blog but apparently my account is screwed up. So: THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! Strangely I'm listening to hfstival echoes on whfs.com/94.7 HD2 and came across your blog once more. They keep IDing as 99.1 hfs and its driving me into an adrenaline rush. I don't know how many people were looking at the clock today at noon but I sure was. Thank you and all involved for bringing us the best station ever built. Donnie

Happy New Year CB.

What a GREAT tape to start off with. Late night with Mark was definitely some strange stuff. Esoteric is a great way to describe the works he played.

Of note, the second side is a very rare album from Vangelis (from Heaven and Hell, Jon & Vangelis, Chariots of Fire, and numerous other albums). Albedo-039 is the reflectivity of the earth -- and this is definitely a space enabled album. I don't know if you planned on posting that, but it was great to hear it again...

I hope all enjoy these great tapes! I know I sure do. Thanks for Posting!

I almost forgot... at the end of Albedo 039 is a cut from Joe Walsh's "But Seriously Folks". The song "Theme from Boat Wierdo's", seems to be a nice return to reality from the deep space provided by Vangelis. I really thought this was a such a cool song - spacey in its own right, and such a juxtaposition from Walsh's more popular tunes such as "Life's been good" -- a popish summary of the life of a rock star...

Anyway -- I hope all enjoy both the HFS tape, as well as the Vangelis tape (if you are into that stuff).

Listening to Mark -- about 14 minutes into it sounds a LOT like Happy the Man (?) -- not sure if anyone recognizes any of these groups/songs, but would appreciate any input anyone has...

And what about Mark's Theme -- I heard it ALL the time (at 2 in the mornings) but I don't know that I ever heard him say what that song was or who did it... I think it was Bob that used some music from Bill Nelson... but I am even foggy on that...

Regarding the DJ themes, Mark's theme is Yadig? by the James Gang.

Bob's opening theme was Hawaiian Two-Step by John Fahey, and his closing theme was 'The Penny Whistle Song' by Hoyt Axton.

Many thanks for all of the great tunes. I feel like I'm living my college days over again. -Martin

thanks for that Martin!

What This Is All About

I've been collecting live music from various sources since the mid to late 70's. Radio shows, TV broadcasts, radio show pre-FM CD's and vinyl LP's and some trades. Most of the shows posted here, I recorded and ripped myself. I always had top of the line stereo equipment and cassette and open reel recorders for those on air broadcasts.

I've downloaded plenty of bootlegged concerts from various blogs. As a rule I will only post stuff from my collection and not what is already available out there.

I also post out of print CDs and LPs from my collection.
I will repost from my readers anything someone sends me as long as it is either out of print or something that's not from someone else's blog. If you want to share a link for a cool item on your blog, or someone else's, please feel free to post it in the comments........

Enjoy and please leave a comment and pass this blog along.

Can you believe that so many out there are starving for the old WHFS? Amazing!

If you leave a comment, how about using a nickname instead of Anonymous. At least make up something please. Thanks!

I have reconsidered my position...and will re-upload dead links, so long as you go to that particular post and make the request from the comments page...
