Double check your minimum and maximum bitrates from my last instructions, they are both set to 128kbps so its only a 128kbps regular MP3 pretending to be a VBR! Total Recorder makes the settings dialog very confusing for some reason (you have to set VBR then specifically choose a minimum of 32kbps and maximum of 320kbps, as well as all the other settings from my last post).

Thanks though, you don't have to jump through any more hoops if you don't want to! I don't want to sound too pushy while helping you set up the settings. Makes me feel guilty after all your hard work already :P

Thanks for the new tape!

Dang...I set min of 128 and max of 320...shit!

Strange, it should have still done better than it did. You sure you have Very High Quality set and VBR Quality set to "0" (set the slider to the far right)?

Newer versions of Lame use a slightly different system for setting quality than Total Recorder is using, which is why you have to toggle so many settings to make it work. If Total Recorder would upgrade their interface you'd just have to set the quality to "0" and set VBR and you'd be done. It's moderately annoying. Oh well.

Wow... I have been listening to this (and the Sara tape too) over the holidays and this is just great stuff.

I know the pops and scratches bugged me too, but they add a sort of authenticity to the music... It is funny to hear them because you NEVER hear them anymore... Esp. on the IPOD... ;)

Happy Happy -- Joy Joy!

and a Happy New Year to all!

Thanks for posting these over the holidays CB -- what a nice Christmas Present!

What This Is All About

I've been collecting live music from various sources since the mid to late 70's. Radio shows, TV broadcasts, radio show pre-FM CD's and vinyl LP's and some trades. Most of the shows posted here, I recorded and ripped myself. I always had top of the line stereo equipment and cassette and open reel recorders for those on air broadcasts.

I've downloaded plenty of bootlegged concerts from various blogs. As a rule I will only post stuff from my collection and not what is already available out there.

I also post out of print CDs and LPs from my collection.
I will repost from my readers anything someone sends me as long as it is either out of print or something that's not from someone else's blog. If you want to share a link for a cool item on your blog, or someone else's, please feel free to post it in the comments........

Enjoy and please leave a comment and pass this blog along.

Can you believe that so many out there are starving for the old WHFS? Amazing!

If you leave a comment, how about using a nickname instead of Anonymous. At least make up something please. Thanks!

I have reconsidered my position...and will re-upload dead links, so long as you go to that particular post and make the request from the comments page...
