WHFS 99.1 XXXIII SPRING 1987, From DaveB

Sorry for such a long break between posts. To tell the truth I just haven't really been motivated to post. In some ways it's a pain in the ass. I love to hear the tapes and I'm happy to share and having these tapes on my hard drive is priceless. But ripping, and scanning, uploading, adding the info to the files and so on is time consuming. And hardly anyone says thanks to Dave. I'm guessing about 30 people out there are following these WHFS postings based on the downloads. I've ranted on about this before...folks download over and over and we never hear a peep from them. Fuck it...I'll stop whining about it and get back to posting.

Here's a nice tape from a DJ I recognize but forget his name. It is loaded with great stuff!

XTC, Polly Rock, Nick Hayward, David Bowie, The Go Betweens, Bad Brains, The Chameleons , The Byrds, The Dead, Chris Isaac, Pearl Harbor, Beyond Words, Kate Bush, Style Council, Flaire, Sammy Shaw

168MB, MP3@320, 92 Minutes

  2. Just a quick note, I am very thankful for the work you've done ripping and posting these cassettes. It has been great for the past year or two to download these posts from you and NaplesGC and anyone else who has helped with this. So please continue with your efforts, there are many of us who look forward to grabbing everything that gets put out there. Thanks again,

  3. I was driving home from the gym the other night listening to Bob from 1983 and all was right with the world.

    Thank you

  4. I check every day for new posts, and am disappointed when I don't see any. On the other hand, my day seems even brighter when we get a new one! Even if I don't comment on every post they all mean a lot to me, and I thank you and Dave for passing along this great stuff!

  5. Here-here Uncle Jim. I couldn't agree more. The day is sad and mundane when there are no posts, but alas -- when there is one, I can't wait to rip it open (so to speak) and get it into iTunes... It is a GREAT highlight to see these new posts. I couldn't agree more!

As for the images -- believe it or not, they are almost as important to me (they probably mean very little to everyone else), but I see the handwriting and it brings back memories -- sitting in my room, listening to the radio, and thinking "damn -- I should be recording this" and then go searching for a tape to record the next song in the session...

I also use these labels as album covers for the music -- and iTunes will show the tapes or casette labels depending on how you are playing them!

Gotta love the technology. I agree though - it is monotonous to rip these (I've ripped a few albums to iTunes, and it is really a long laborious process -- a labor of love). But a labor all the same. I can see getting burned out on this, and it is all the more reason I am so grateful that CB is taking the time to do this... Once again CB -- MANY THANKS!

    DaveB.

  7. I, too, am sorry about the Skins but there are bigger fish to fry (sorry about the cliche). And yes, I love the HFS posts but I've said that many times in the past. Here comes another one, oh, trusty IPOD

  8. Wow -- I was just listening to this AGAIN yesterday and WHAT a great set of tapes -- XXXIII and XXXIV were terrific to listen too. At this point, they all beging to blur together (esp. when listening to them on the ipod w/ headphones on), but Kate Bush, and some of the old Dead. And the David Bowie song was terrific -- I can't tell you if I have EVER heard that on the radio before or since... I would have to say no.

Some of these timeless classics have largely been ignored by the radio -- it really is a shame. too bad they only play the Top 40/pop songs on there now. Guess that's why I listen to news more often than music these days... (well, not any more thanks to CB!).

    Thanks again...

  9. I also wanted to thank the tape contributors Dave, NaplesGC and whoever else for their valuable contribution to radio was been listening society. Thanks for all your work in posting the massive volume of items you have, radio tapes as well as your personal collection. I enjoy listening to the tuneage while on the road. It sure beats the excuse that is called radio entertainment these days.

    Thanks agian to all,

  10. Rockabilly Roller...thanks for the comments! Dave and Naples and Robbie and Bill and Bob and Josh too...and speaking of Robbie...he is in the process of digitizing some vintage WGTB tapes from the 70's. I've listened to some already and they are awesome. Will be posting them next week! stay tuned!
