Dang,
Robbie spent the last week or so digitizing about 19 WHFS Mystic Eyes Shows from 1980. He was kind enough to send me links to download them and present them here.
I have only heard a couple of them and they sound pretty awesome.
Big thanks to Robbie for all his hard work and generosity!!!

[any additional info?]
I guess the only other info I should have posted is that sadly, Robbie tells me, there is no DJ Chatter...Right now I'm listening to tape 2 chock full of early punk...
ReplyDeleteSo fantastic! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this tapes !!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank Robbie!
ReplyDeleteThis is the fucking shit. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThese Steve Lorber tapes are recorded by my friend Gary in the year 1980 (right after Steve left WGTB and came to WHFS). Unfortunatey when Gary recorded these, he turned off his cassette when the music stopped, so there is no DJ talk nor any commercials.

It's amazing thinking back...I hated talk and chatter...but today they are cherished on those tapes!
ReplyDeleteMy thanks to Robbie for getting these tapes downloaded and burned to CDs for me -- I've been listening to them in my car, and discovering a lot of songs I haven't heard since 1980. I recorded these from the "Mystic Eye" in the spring and summer and 1980. As Robbie notes, I would pause my recorder during commercials, PSAs, etc. -- trying to conserve tape, I guess. I can identify most but not all of the songs/artists if you are stumped by any of them.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I also have somewhere between 25 and 50 hours of tape from Jello Biafra's weekly punk show on the Pacifica radio station in San Francisco -- recorded when I lived there in 1981. A lot of these songs are very obscure, and I'm guessing there's a lot of stuff here that is not otherwise available today. If anyone would like to help me get these converted to CDs, let me know.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to here from you Gary! As far as getting your tapes on CD or digitizing them, either get a standalone CD recorder or run the outputs from you tape deck into your sound card and record them via software like Total Recorder...here's link:

Would love to play these Mystic Eyes Steve Lorber shows. My all time favorite DJ from those days! Love the Joe Meeks sounds!
ReplyDeleteWon't let me play, don't know what to do, no megaupload dot com anymore?
