WHFS 102.3 Bethesda, MD: Adele 01-08-1983 Saturday Morning

This is DJ Adele recorded Jan 08 1983, Saturday morning, 10:00-11:30 AM right after Dick Lillard's Roots of Rock show. One of the cool things about ripping these tapes, is rediscovering music from the past, then searching the blogs and e-bay, Amazon, etc. looking for those albums that I don't own yet. Widespread Depression Orchestra from this tape is one of those. There is a CD on Amazon for $198.00. Holy crap! I'll get an album or two from these guys sooner or later. Edit: Just won the album pictured above! I love that Texas Swing boogie type music.

Elvis Presley, The Blasters, Powerhouse, Aerosmith, Stray Cats, Nighthawks, J.Geils, Johnny Winter, T-Birds, Widespread Depression Orchestra [Barnyard Boogie], Eddie Jefferson, Joe Jackson, Slim Gaylor, Garland Jeffries, Catfish Hodge, Elvis Costello, Blues Brothers

160MB, MP3 @320, 78 Minutes

  1. Kayaker, I had forgotten about Adele on HFS Saturday mornings. I listened to her every weekend. She really could do some serious neo rockabilly and swing and blues and old rockn'roll and mix it all up. Thanks again for the HFS.

  2. Kayaker,
No problem. I was one of Adele's biggest fans. I spoke to her several times on the phone. Nice lady. She really knew her roots rock, rockabilly, blues and local DC music scene. I am listening to her 01-08-83 show right now. Thanks for the 320kbps quality. It sounds great!!

  3. Too bad you can't find anyone to listen to these days with that kind of knowledge.
A word about bitrates...As you probaly know a lot of stuff on here is posted in WMA format no lower than 64kbps. In my opion, but not shared by others, an acceptable bitrate for listening to in the car or portable players. Microsoft even claims WMA @64kbps to be CD quality. Maybe not, but good enough for my ears. Before I had even given a thought to share my music, I had 2000 albums or more ripped to my computer. Including a bunch of WHFS, WRNR, and WXZL tapes. At half the bitrate of MP3's you get basically the same quality and also 1/2 the file size.
The recent postings I've made available in MP3 @320 because I know that's what most folks want. After I post them, I convert them to WMA, so if anyone needs a repost, you may get the WMA lower bit rate files.
And of course, I am not going back to re-rip any tapes or LP's. Too much work.
Some Dickhead posted a comment in the Joe Jackson, Live At The Bayou post, that he want's to download it but not at such a "shitty bitrate". Now if he had asked nicely and not been so F'n rude I may have re-ripped and reposted it, since it is a CD recording from tape. Not that big a deal. That's it. Rant over.

I am referring to the rest of my WHFS tape collection that I am dusting off, baking, yes baking in the oven. Google "Baking Tapes" for more info. Only a few left. It's a real job to get each and everyone of these tapes ripped and posted. Glad you and everyone else out there are downloading them, and thanks for your appreciation. It's what keeps us posting this rare stuff.
    2nd rant over.

  5. Oh yeah, I understand. I am glad to have anything since the majority (over 80%) of my collection is vinyl and I don't have a turntable in the car! LOL.

  6. Turntable in a car? Didn't I see one offered in Japan way back when?
    Maybe not...

  7. Hey, I really like the pops and clicks in those vinyl rips! (and the pre CD HFS days where they were spinning vinyl.)

  8. In Kim's set, I came upon one of those lost singles that I left behind in DC in 1987. Jonathan Richmond of all things singing some song named 52 ----. Excellent song. Because of this website my life is coming together. Thanks. And Merry Christmas etc.
