Bryan Ferry – New Town, Bryan Ferry In Europe [DVD Audio Rip] 2 Hours @320
At long last, with nothing to do during the Blizzard of ’16, I got around to re-posting this great Bryan Ferry DVD. Originally released as ‘New Town’ on VHS in 1989, this classic live concert is taken from various performances filmed during the ‘Bete Noire’ European Tour Of 1988 and 1989. Enjoy!

Super Contributer Jim Gives us a Christmas Present!
Camarillo,
This
has been fun but here is my last tape from the ‘HFS-102.3 days. I know
versions of this have been posted before. In fact, I’d be interested
if you would repost your last 3 hours tape. To give it a bit of a
twist, I’m including some of the newspaper clippings showing the
announced sale of 102.3 to the Outlet Company and the speculation that
HFS would re-surface on AM 1390. Thankfully, that didn’t happen and the
long run on 99.1 did happen, although for most of the fans of the old
102.3, the 99.1 years were a slow fade to irrelevance.
Jim
Last Hours of 102.3
Here
is my last tape of WHFS-102.3 FM Bethesda, MD. Fittingly it is the
last 90 minutes or so of the final sign off on July 14, 1983. The
announcement of WHFS’ sale to the Outlet Company (as shown in The
Washington Post story from December 31, 1982), got hundreds of tape
recorders busy in the 6 ½ months to follow. There were many references
to ‘The Other Side’ which was intended to be 1390AM. Interestingly that
stirred resistance from another generation, as 1390 was playing a Big
Band format at the time. As we know, that move never happened and the
other side ended up being a move across the river to Annapolis and 99.1
FM.
Milo spinning tunes on 102.3 for the last time
Followed by the group sign off and the first verse of the Velvet Underground’s ‘After Hours’ … and the tape fades out…

Jim shared another 'HFS tape with DJ Jim Dunbar
Saturday Morning, May 14, 1983 – Jim Dunbar
Kind
of a strange mix here. An early Saturday morning --too early it
seems-- set from Jim Dunbar which features: Siouxsee and the Banshees
(Switch), The Minutemen (East Wind- Faith), MX80 Sound (More Than Good),
Depeche Mode (an alternate mix of Get the Balance Right), Simple Minds
(Premonition), Roxy Music (Just Another High), Dream Syndicate (That’s
What You Always Say)…and just after Jim introduces the ‘News Blimp Goes
to Hell’… the tape switches to something slightly noisy (was this taped
off an AM station?), unintelligible at first…, until you realize it’s
about 10 minutes of an episode of the National Lampoon Radio Hour which
features a parody of AM Talk Radio in the 70’s among other things. No
commercials, but around the 37 minute mark you get a sampling up and
down the DC rock/pop radio dial. Then back to the National Lampoon which
starts fading out at the end of the tape.

Many thanks once again Jim!

Jim shares yet another 'HFS tape. Friday, March 27, 1981
Camarillo,
Here’s
my oldest ‘HFS tape so far. It starts on Friday, March 27, 1981 and
finishes up few days after that since there’s a duplicate song; and you
would NEVER hear the same song twice on ‘HFS in the same day never mind
within the same hour.
Side
1: The Boomtown Rats, The DB’s, Ultravox, Echo and the Bunnymen, Urban
Verbs, Graham Parker (twice), The Police and The Stranglers(?). I
believe this was from Milo’s show but I didn’t keep the back
announcing.
Side
2: This definitely starts with Milo, likely a day or so later: Martha
and the Muffins, The Vapors, Graham Parker (“Don’t Get Excited”- a
repeat from Side 1), New Order.
Switching
over to David, probably a few days later: The Fleshtones, ?, The Monks,
John Cale (“Strange Times in Casablanca”—what a dark song), Talking
Heads, and The Pretenders.
Enjoy it. I’ve only got a few more of these 102.3 tapes left to share.

WHFS 102.3FM MILO Then KIM JULY 1981 Shared by super contributor Jim
Camarillo,
Here’s
a 45 minute tape from July 1981. This is one of my earliest ‘HFS tapes
and although the sound quality is good, it’s not put together as cleanly
as my later tapes. No matter, it is still worth a listen. It begins
with tunes from Milo and shifts somewhere in the middle to Kim. I
didn’t catch most of the back announcing on this so had to remember,
guess, or look up the artists as best I could.
Jim
Milo then Kim
Talking
Heads, T. Bone Burnett, Grace Jones, Human Sexual Response (“Jackie
Onassis”), The Waitresses, ??? (Marianne), Holly & the Italians,
Let’s Active (early version of ‘Blue Line’), ???, 999, Blue Orchids,
Medium Medium, and ends as it began with the Talking Heads

What This Is All About
I've been collecting live music from various sources since the mid to late 70's. Radio shows, TV broadcasts, radio show pre-FM CD's and vinyl LP's and some trades. Most of the shows posted here, I recorded and ripped myself. I always had top of the line stereo equipment and cassette and open reel recorders for those on air broadcasts.
I've downloaded plenty of bootlegged concerts from various blogs. As a rule I will only post stuff from my collection and not what is already available out there.
I also post out of print CDs and LPs from my collection.
I will repost from my readers anything someone sends me as long as it is either out of print or something that's not from someone else's blog. If you want to share a link for a cool item on your blog, or someone else's, please feel free to post it in the comments........
Enjoy and please leave a comment and pass this blog along.
Can you believe that so many out there are starving for the old WHFS? Amazing!
If you leave a comment, how about using a nickname instead of Anonymous. At least make up something please. Thanks!
I have reconsidered my position...and will re-upload dead links, so long as you go to that particular post and make the request from the comments page...
