The story behind this post, is I was off that particular day in April, Wed the 25th, 1983. A couple of buddies and I would be going to see U2 at Richie Coliseum at the University of Maryland that evening. The place is no bigger than a high school basketball gym.

As I almost always do on my day off, I'm taping WHFS 102.3FM in Bethesda, MD. For me the best radio station ever. That day Bono and Adam Clayton came in for an interview and bring with them live promos and other releases that are damned rare even today. Not only is there an interview that is very good, but they play a lot of music form the time period that is influential to U2 and new wave in general. The tape is over 2.5 hours long, split into 9 segments of various links. The sound is excellent, and the entire tape, if your into that era, is very entertaining and informative. Killer live and alternative takes of early U2 as well as Joy Division and other music of the time. The section with U2 is almost an hour long. The show feels like a celebration of U2 coming into their own, but still really in their infancy. A must for any U2 fan, and a great listen for any casual fan of the band or just something cool from that period in mid 1983. This would make for a great road trip CD.

By the way, the concert was awesome. Saw my first mosh pit. Bono did a swan dive in the crowd. Brought a girl up on stage and danced with her. One of my all time, best of shows, that I've attended.
Check it out and let me know what you think.
