Boy, am I happy and suprised. I moved to the D.C. area in 1969. I always loved these blues and oldies and started going back to them, backing away from Rock music, i.e., the Beetles, etc. I discovered Dick around 1976 and boy was I happy. I lived the oldies and I've listened to many of the oldies style Disc Jockies like Porky Chadwick in Pittsberg, etc. But I gotta tell you, Dick knows more about this music than any man alive. I'm so happy to hear that he's still educating us. Dick ... you are one of the greats!DBrownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3213408216137068446.post-48060322802729421752014-06-08T10:25:33.502-04:002014-06-08T10:25:33.502-04:00Dick was awesome! Analog trips down memory lane. Same for my tapes of The Sunday Night Thing of The Past on WASH, 97.1, featuring John Dowling and Bob Ducman, two University of Maryland men. They knew much and modestly shared about folk- rock, 1960's rock and some rock and roll. Yet for the roots of rock and roll and 1950's to early 1960's r and r, no one beat Dick Lillard. Dick Lillard was not just a DJ, he was an educator. He introduced Irma Thomas' "Hittin' on Nothin'" as a song that sounds like a hit, but wasn't. Brilliant. If I recall correctly, his show was on 'HFS 6-10 on a weekend morning, and I would listen on my way to work at Greenbelt Shell. Ah, those days. I learned more about music from Dick Lillard than I can say -- I thank him to this day.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3213408216137068446.post-67072347972191227842008-01-20T10:02:00.000-05:002008-01-20T10:02:00.000-05:00Holy smokes! The iternet has it's faults, but stuff like this makes it pretty incredible that a tape made way back in 1979 was published on this music blog, and the DJ from that tape some how finds it and contacts me here! Wow! Pretty cool!
Dick, your shows were great, only regret is I don't have more. I will try to tune in to WKHS FM(90.5). Good luck and good health to you! Hope you get a chance to download this and the other tapes and here yourself from way back when!
Thanks again for the comments!
