WHFS 99.1 Diane 05-17-1985

I was used to hearing Diane in the morning drive time. Pretty cool to hear her do an evening show.
I Loved Diane! She's playin' all the the stuff I like...Anytime I hear a tune from Lone Justice, life is good! (Could do without the Temple City Kazoos though, just sayin')
 Enjoy, and thanks again Robbie!
Don't just download and run, let's here some thanks for Robbie in the comments. Since the recent post of these tapes, there has been as many as 40 or more downloads, so lots of folks out there are tuned in. C'mon! It cost real cash to mail these tapes back fourth!

Crosby, Stills and Nash - Allies UPDATE

Sadly, I needed to update the Allies LP. I listened to it today, and turns out the last two tracks were hosed due to a dirty switch in the record out of my receiver. I re-ripped the last two tracks, and posted a new link. Please delete your copy and get the new link.

Here it is, and my apologies go out to the 130+ folks that downloaded it. The old link is now dead.

Can't say I recall WHFS DJ Edmond. Whatever, he spins some fine tunes here in early April of 1985!

Thanks, as always go to Robbie and his Takoma Park friend...Enjoy

CS&N - Allies

Had to get a better bit rate of my vinyl copy, and figured, I might as well share this long out of print album. According to the interwebs, there was a limited CD run, and these can go for $150 and higher on Amazon and eBay. Vinyl copies can be had at more sane prices. Anyways, here's a not so well respected, but IMO, a nice album from CSN.

The rest of the text here is copied from Wikipedia:
The album starts off with two studio recordings. The lead track "War Games" was written for the 1983 film WarGames and was released as a single by the group, which peaked at #45 on the Billboard Hot 100. This song was used in initial early promotional theatrical trailers and in a promotional video for MTV, but their participation in the project was cancelled at the last moment. The MTV video for the song was composed solely of scenes from the movie. The second studio track, "Raise A Voice" by Stephen Stills and Graham Nash, was appended to the 2006 re-issue of Daylight Again as a bonus track.
The rest of the album consists of live recordings from two different tours. The tracks "Shadow Captain" and "For Free" were recorded in Houston, Texas, on the 1977 tour for the CSN album. Presumably they were chosen as they were strong David Crosby performances, something becoming more difficult for Crosby to muster evidenced by his minimal participation on the band's previous studio album as he dealt with personal difficulties that would eventually lead to his time in prison. The rest of the album derives from a show at the New Universal Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, on the 1982 tour to promote Daylight Again.

 TRACKLIST:
1. War Games (Stills) - 2:18 *
2. Raise A Voice (Nash/Stills) - 2:31 *
3. Turn Your Back On Love (Stills) - 5:04 **
4. Barrel of Pain (Nash) - 5:46 **
5. Shadow Captain (Crosby) - 4:30 ***
6. Dark Star (Stills) - 4:48 **
7. Blackbird (John Lennon/Paul McCartney) - 2:30 **
8. For Free (Joni Mitchell) - 3:48 ***
9. Wasted On The Way (Nash) - 2:37 **
10. For What It's Worth (Stills) - 5:38 **

(* Studio Track, Recorded in Los Angeles, California, 1983)
(** Recorded Live at the New Universal Amphitheatre, Universal City, California, 1982)
(*** Recorded Live in Houston, Texas, 1977)

WHFS 99.1 Weasel: All Xmas Tunes 12-23-1983

Sorry, I'm not a big fan of Christmas music. After about 15 minutes of this, I had to put it on auto pilot and listen to some Bruce Cockburn. Anyways, it's all whacky Christmas music Weasel put together in '83. Save it for the holidays if you dare. Hell, it's even got Root Boy doing Xmas at Kmart!

WLOM 99.1 Weasel, Halloween Set, Then Bob Here 10-31-1983

Robbie sent 14 new WHFS Tapes for me to rip and post here on the blog.
Also a couple CD's of tapes from WLOM 99.1, the brief precursor of WHFS prior to the call letter change to WHFS.
This tape is from Oct 31 1983. I don't have time to hear it, but if it's Weasel, and Halloween, it should be interesting. Then, Side B is Bob Here spinning the tunes. If you want to know what's on it you have to download and listen to it.
I'll be ripping those tapes and posting them over the next few weeks. Stay tuned

'NEW TOWN' BRYAN FERRY IN EUROPE DVD RIP

This post is currently unavailable. It needs to be re-ripped due to a dirty record out switch on my Yamaha receiver. Will repost later.

Here is an audio rip from my New Town- Bryan Ferry In Europe DVD.
Originally released as ‘New Town’ on VHS in 1989, this classic live concert is taken from various performances filmed during the ‘Bete Noire’ European Tour Of 1988 and 1989. The DVD is a fascinating insight into Ferry’s moody and mysterious live sound of that period.
The tracks blend into each other via a melting pot of guitars, percussion and synthesizers.

Promoting his 1987 album Bete Noire, the show was a mixture of that album, plus other BF solo and Roxy Music tracks.

The musicians on stage are:
Bryan Ferry, Andy Newmark, Neil Hubbard, Luico Hopper, Clifford Carter, Steve Scales, Jeff Thall, Michelle Cobbs, Ednah Holt and Yanick Etienne

It sounds pretty awesome!

Westwood One Pre-FM CD Mega-Post

I recently re-ripped a bunch of my Westwood One Radio Pre-FM CD shows. A rather painstaking process of deleting commercials, DJ babble and other uninteresting or annoying introductions and outros. Some do contain these intros if they are mildly interesting or contain information such as venue and date. A few songs were left out of these shows, shit I don't care for.
Most of the folders contain CD and/or cue-sheet scans.
Too much was spent on these back in the day before file sharing. So, get whatever interest you and enjoy.

WHFS 99.1 WEASEL 07-04-1984

Strange that both these tapes posted from the 4th of July make no mention of Independence Day. Whatever, Weasel plays a rockin' set!
This is the last of the ten tapes that Robbie mailed to me for posting on the blog. What a treat it was to hear them and get them out there for all the old 'HFS Heads!! Robbie's buddy did an awesome job recording these, using sweet maxell UDXLII 90 minute tapes, and some choice editing. Another nice thing was not having to frantically jot down the titles and artists, nice work!

What This Is All About

I've been collecting live music from various sources since the mid to late 70's. Radio shows, TV broadcasts, radio show pre-FM CD's and vinyl LP's and some trades. Most of the shows posted here, I recorded and ripped myself. I always had top of the line stereo equipment and cassette and open reel recorders for those on air broadcasts.

I've downloaded plenty of bootlegged concerts from various blogs. As a rule I will only post stuff from my collection and not what is already available out there.

I also post out of print CDs and LPs from my collection.
I will repost from my readers anything someone sends me as long as it is either out of print or something that's not from someone else's blog. If you want to share a link for a cool item on your blog, or someone else's, please feel free to post it in the comments........

Enjoy and please leave a comment and pass this blog along.

Can you believe that so many out there are starving for the old WHFS? Amazing!

If you leave a comment, how about using a nickname instead of Anonymous. At least make up something please. Thanks!

I have reconsidered my position...and will re-upload dead links, so long as you go to that particular post and make the request from the comments page...
